Before every trip I do the same thing. I lay everything I want to bring on the bed. Every outfit I chose. The dinner dress. The linen blazer. The extra pair of shoes. All of it.
Then I start putting things back. The blazer goes first — too bulky. Then one pair of shoes. Then, when the carry-on still won't close, the dress. The one I bought for this trip. The one I was looking forward to wearing.
Back in the closet. Next time. I always said next time. The problem was never that I packed too much. The problem was that my clothes took up more space than I had. Until Daniela showed me that space isn't fixed — it's just full of air.
